Nha trang beach swims

Nha Trang is a city in Khanh Hoa Province and lies on the coast of the East Sea. Located in the southern part of central Vietnam, it has a population of about 300,000 inhabitants. Total area is 238 sq km, average temperature 23 C. Nha Trang also has the lowest level of humidity in all of Vietnam. It is 1.287 km south of Ha Noi, 624 km south of Hue and 442 km from Ho Chi Minh City.

Its name is a Vietnamese pronunciation of a Cham word Eatran of Yjatan. Ea or Yja means river, and tran means reed. According to the locals, there once were a lot of reeds along Ngoc Hoi river. The river winds its way through the town. Ngoc Hoi was later renamed Nha Trang river.

Another theory of the origin of Nha Trang’s name has a more amusing twist. Long ago, in this part of the country, all the houses were made out of the reeds and mud gathered from Ngoc Hoi river. However, there is only brick house belonging to Dr Yersin, a French immunologist. The house itself was painted prominently white and could be seen by vessels coming from far away. One day, a foreign vessel passed by and the translator blurted out Nha Trang or white house for denoting the place where he were.

The early 20th century, Nha Trang was only a small fishing village situated along the Cai estuary. In 1924, King Khai Dinh founded the Nha Trang town including 4 villages: Xuong Huan, Phuong Cau, Van Thanh, Phuong Sai.

In 1989, Phu Khanh province separated into 2 provinces Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa. Nha Trang is city of Khanh Hoa province. Nowadays, Nha Trang is a buzzing modern city with high tourist facilities.
