It began with an extraordinary poetic event: in the 13th century, Princess Huyen Tran married Che Man king of Champa. Their historic married found 2 prefectures O and Ly annexed to Vietnamese territory and thus laid basic for the making of the later Thuan Hoa region.
The Citadel was the scene of brutal fighting and staggering casualties during the Offensive in Spring 1968, when the North Vietnamese held the fort for 26 days before being driven out by American forces. The damage inflicted to the architecture is still being repaired and the Citadel may never be fully restored.
Hue is the ancient capital of the Nguyen Dynasty (1820 – 1945). It has an area 5054 sq km and population of 1 100 000. It was designated a World’s heritage site UNESCO. Hue is neither great industrial nor great trading center but consists an undeniable charm in every aspect of its life. Today, Hue still remains one of Vietnamese’s major tourist attractions.
Hue where is an climatic exception in comparison with the North and the South has the severe weather conditions and the climatic distinction between the regions in the province. In the littoral and the delta, there are separated 2 seasons: dry season (March to August) and rainy season (August to January). In dry season, it is hot and muggy, the temperature come to 39ْ C. In rainy season, it is 19,7ْ C and it is rain all the day or all the week. In the mountainous region, it is rainy, cool. The temperature is between 9ْ C and 29ْ C.The best time to visit Hue is from May to August, when it tends to be driest. Bring a raincoat anyway, as it’s still likely to rain.
